Although many may have witnessed the two southern cohorts perform at the AC3 festival in Atlanta over the weekend, most are unaware of the actual impact Bun B has had on Big K.R.I.T.’s career. Detailing that UGK had an influence on his music way before even meeting Bun B, K.R.I.T. tells XXL that working with legend is something he never thought would happen and that the two actually have new music on the way.
“UGK has been a big inspiration to me as a musician, career-wise, and just as a person,” said Big K.R.I.T. in a chat with XXL.” They were one of the first few groups that I remember made it cool to be southern and rapped about things that I could see. And I could understand and relate to. Then being from a small city, I could also relate to that as well with a lot of the subject matter and content.”
Later reflecting on the past work construed by the two MCs, with bright hopes for the he continued, “It’s exciting to have been part of a record like “Country Sh*t” with him and to be a part of whatever project he does. Even with the coloring book he just dropped, to be a part of that and just to be recognized by such a legend and somebody that I grew up respecting so much. I never imagined that I’d even have the opportunity to even work with him. To be able to do that is definitely a milestone.”
There are also plenty other rappers that have contributed to K.R.I.T.’s stance in the rap game, sort of taking on the roles as big brothers to the Mississippi spitter. “David Banner, Ludacris, Big Boi, Devin The Dude, 8 Ball and MJG; it’s a lot of people that I’ve had the opportunity to work with at this point that like I can actually call them and get information. They don’t mind giving me pieces of the game and telling me what to do. And telling me what they’ve done and how to handle certain situations.”
As for K.R.I.T.’s upcoming album Cadillactica, fans can expect to hear his mentor Bun B on that project as well.”It’s always people that you can expect to be on my album, Bun B is one person,” said Big K.R.I.T. about his upcoming sophomore album.
