T.I. may be spending a year behind bars, but that isn't stopping fans from snapping up copies of his latest album No Mercy, which was recently certified Gold.
The album was released on December 7th, just as the rapper started serving a year-long prison stint in an Arkansas prison for a September violation of the terms of his previous probation for gun charges.
No Mercy, which is T.I.'s seventh album, has sold in excess of 500,000 copies, to earn the Gold certification from the RIAA.
The album sold almost 160,000 copies during its first week in stores, placing it a #4 on Billboard's Top 200 chart.

Beyonce Knowles just got a major break in her longtime bid for an Oscar: Clint Eastwood has signed on to direct her in the Warner Bros. update of “A Star Is Born.”
Eastwood’s announcement more than solidifies the flick, which has seen several incarnations over the past year (or years) with various directors and male talent attached (Beyonce has long been the female lead in mind).
Last February a short list of names including Russell Crowe, Sean Penn and Robert Downey Jr. were circulating to play opposite the pop sensation, as an alcoholic superstar in love with Knowles’ budding singer.
A current short list includes varied types like Will Smith, Eddie Murphy and Jon Hamm, according to Deadline Hollywood.
Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson brought the tale to life in 1976, earning permanent spots in pop culture for their efforts. Streisand won a Golden Globe for her acting performance and best original song but saw Oscar love only in the original song category.
Knowles, wife of rap mogul Jay-Z, has always been open about her Academy Award aspirations. In 2009, she told Self magazine that the thought of snatching that trophy motivated everything down to her fitness.
Referring to a painting of the Oscar that hangs above her treadmill, she said, “I look at it, and I’m like ‘OK, I have to stay in shape.’”

David Banner has been dipping his feet in fresh waters lately. In addition to his usual hip-hop fare, the Mississippi veteran is also carving out a path for himself as film and video game score composer. XXLMag.com recently chopped it up with DB to find out about his extra-curricular activities.
It seems like the former Crooked Lettaz frontman, has quite a busy side hustle. “I just finished doing something for [the new] Street Fighter [game],” Banner revealed to XXL. “I also did the music for the Megamind trailer and the score for Footloose.” Craig Brewer, the man directing the forthcoming remake of the classic 1984 Kevin Bacon movie, gave Banner his first acting gig in 2006’s Black Snake Moan.
Aside from rapping and producing for himself and others, composing film scores and commercials, like last year’s “Evolve” campaign for Gatorade, has become part of Banner’s steady gigs. He couldn’t be more grateful for the unique opportunities. “I’m blessed, because not many artists get the opportunities that I get,” he said. “I’m so humbled for these opportunities. This is something I can do for the rest of my life.”
Banner was recently inducted into the Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame for his music. And though his collaborative album with 9th Wonder, Death of A Pop Star, is still fresh on everyone’s minds, he’s not resting on his laurels. The rapper/producer is still spending plenty of time to his first love, hip-hop. He’s already hard at work on a upcoming solo album, entitled Trinity.
So what’s on David Banner’s agenda for 2011? “More commercials,” he said as well as a self-financed movie to be released via his film production company, A Banner Vision.
